United Kingdom and Channel Islands
Did you know that on a spring tide the tidal range between high and low water  is 12 metres, twice a day in the Channel Islands? This can spawn tidal streams of up to 8 knots in places – proper passage planning is essential!

The Channel Islands are swept by the Gulf Stream and experience a warm micro-climate as a result.
The stunning cruising area of the Channel Islands lies nestled between the coasts of Normandy and Brittany, stretching from Alderney in the North to Mont Saint-Michel in the Bay of that name in the extreme south of the area. The Channel Islands themselves form a chain of beautiful rocky Islands with stunning beaches located between hard granite headlands: Alderney, Guernsey, Sark, Jethou, Herm, Jersey, les Ecrohou and Les Minquiers make for an unforgettable cruising experience.

Most destinations are within a few hours reach of each other and vary from completely isolated bays to busy harbours. Sark has no cars so transport on the Island is by bicycle, tractor or horse and cart. Just 10 miles away lies the beautiful harbour town of St Peter Port, the main town of the Island of Guernsey, with its’ bustling cobbled high street and old merchants houses tumbling down the hill. Cuisine in the Islands is a delight and a mixture of French and English with abundant fresh local seafood.

Fringing the Channel Islands to the east is the Normandy coastline of the Cotentin peninsular stretching south from Cherbourg to the Bay of Saint Michel, taking in the tidal ports of Carteret and Granville. In the extreme south lies the coast of Brittany, the highpoint being the fortified medieval port/city of St Malo; the River Rance stretches south a further 10 miles into the heart of the French countryside and is navigable all the way up to Dinan. To the west lies the rugged, beautiful coastline of North Brittany; Paimpol, Ile de Brehat, Lezardrieux and Treguier – all great cruising destinations, good food, good wine and even better scenery.

We can organise charters visiting the area either starting from the UK, or using regular flights and ferries in Cherbourg, St Malo, Guernsey or Jersey, enabling you to spend more time in these fantastic cruising grounds.
