Antigua Sailing Week: 22nd April – 30th April 2011
Antigua Sailing Week
This is it – the big one – Antigua Sailing Week! ASW is the major regatta of the Caribbean season and one of the top five regattas in the world. Having changed the format for the 2009 Antigua Sailing Week, the regatta organizers have now listened to feedback and reverted to a broadly similar historical format. Race Week justifiably has the reputation of being the hardest sailing/socializing regatta of the season. Winds can be higher than for the other regattas and a lot of the racing takes place on the ocean side of the Island with fairly large seas. A suggested regatta charter week consists of 2 days training and 5 days racing with a layday in the middle of the week.

There are different classes and divisions available for yachts to race in: Racing, Performance Cruising and Cruising. In ALL of these classes the racing is hard fought and the only real difference is the courses sailed – contact us to help you make the right choice for your charter.

The Performance Cruising and Cruising classes have a first day racing a short course off the South coast of Antigua, overnighting in either Falmouth Harbour or the picturesque Nelson’s Dockyard. Day two sees the fleet racing around the west side of the Island finishing in Dickenson Bay; in the evening there is an immense party set up on the beach in a brilliant setting, finishing in the early hours of the morning. Day three is spent racing off the West Coast of Antigua mostly in protected waters in the lee of the Island, followed by a race from Jolly Harbour back to Falmouth Harbour on day four. After a lay day, the last day of racing on Thursday will be a new race, called the Willoughby Bay Race.
